This product is designed to be taught over a couple of periods and integrates ELA with math so smoothly and effectively!
This product is complete with visuals, teacher notes, complete supply list, student friendly directions, and opportunities for higher level thinking!
Start this lesson by asking your students questions that will prompt them to give answers that are objective and descriptive based on their own observations. Each question is designed to promote student led discussions about the art. Once they are able to describe their observations clearly when they are prompted by you, you can begin to ask more abstract and subjective questions that help develop their critical thinking skills. As they try to interpret the painting with your guidance, they are using inferences skills and drawing their own conclusions based on evidence that they are observing. It is important that the students cite visual evidence from the artwork to justify their responses.
There are questions on each slide that get increasingly higher level and more open ended. You know your students best so you can adapt them to meet their student’s needs.
The first art project can each be done in collaborate groups or independently to create a large scale piece of art work. Adjust the directions to work with your group. It is ok to do both of them independently!
