This product contains three text-dependent, multiple-choice questions about DéLana R. A. Dameron's 2018 poem "My Love is Black." It is a timely, powerful poem about an African American speaker's experience in modern America.
These questions are modeled after the New York State Common Core ELA Regents exam. I created these questions using common question stems that appear on this exam, and have infused frequently recurring vocabulary that appears on the exam in the answer choices. The directions also require students to engage in metacognition, as students are invited to make their thinking visible by providing a one-sentence rationale to justify each answer.
This product includes an answer key. The actual poem, due to copyright reasons, IS NOT included, but it can be easily found through a search engine.
