This product creates a scenario where your students have been hired as an Advertisement Executive. They will begin training, which consist of learning about different advertising and persuasive techniques, including the following:
2.) Emotional Appeal
5.) Expert Opinion/Testimonial
After students complete their training, they will begin their research. During this step, students will look at different Super Bowl ads and complete a graphic organizer. In the organizer they will:
-identify the product and target audience
-identify/circle the persuasive techniques used
-summarize the commercial
-identify the tone and mood
-explain the multimedia elements used to convey the identified tone and mood
-identify figurative language and literary devices used
At the end, it allows for students to discuss additional decisions producers have to make in order to get as many people to tune into the game as possible, like who will sing the National Anthem and perform at half time. It also allows them to choose who they think would be good options for next year's Super Bowl.
I plan to go through the training section together, watch one advertisement together, and model how to complete the organizer. Then, I will offer several options for other Super Bowl ads to research and complete the organizer for and place students into groups based on their interests in the different ads. Once students have worked with their group to analyze the commercial, we will watch the commercial as a class and groups will share their findings.
The last section challenges students to think about additional decisions producers have to make in order to get as many people to tune into the game as possible, like who will perform the National Anthem and perform at half time. Then, it allows them to decide who they feel would be a good choice for next year's Super Bowl.
*After watching the Super Bowl tonight, I plan to create an additional page that provides links to a variety of different advertisements.
