This standards-based product contains 10 multiple choice questions. Five questions pertain to the autobiographical short story "Salvation" by Langston Hughes, four relate to chapter one of The Adventures of Huckleberry Finn, and one covers both texts.
A chart (sample responses included) asks readers to document details related to plot, characterization, theme, figurative language, and the use of diction. An extended writing prompt (rubric included) asks writers to use the ideas gathered in this chart to create a response that compares and contrasts the two texts on the basis of these literary elements.
This lesson can be used as a stand alone practice or as part of a novel study of The Adventures of Huckleberry Finn.
