Every sport has a championship. The players that are in the big game are excited because they have a chance to prove that they are the very best in their sport. It’s the same with the big test ~ it’s a championship where students can be proud to prove that they have learned as much as they can!
This pdf file starts off with a rhyming story about the concept of the big test being a championship with tips for ELA testing success ( and a couple of Math references since most of our state tests also have a math test). The story is followed by several ELA resources in the "game plan" section of the book to use with the story to get ready for test day!
The "game plan" includes:
★vocabulary practice (with some of the story's most interesting word choices)
★comprehension and reading skills questions about the story. (For example: How is an Olympic championship similar to the Big Test?)
★mentor sentence plans (using a sentence from the story)
★a reading skills quick reference guide AND foldable (main idea, compare/contrast, cause/effect, author's purpose, inference, text features, text structures)
★NEW for 2015 - help with constructing short and long answer responses using A.C.E. and R.A.C.E.S.
This is all to help students get in the right mindset for taking their state's big test!
