PRODUCT DESCRIPTION

This is a 7th Grade English Language Arts lesson to help students understand how to determine the thesis/ main points of a speech, how to use notecards to organize a speech, and how to determine an appropriate title for a speech.

Standards Covered:
SWBAT organize ideas using notecards for an oral presentation.

SWBAT determine the thesis and main points of a speech.

SWBAT to select a title for a text.


The lesson begins with notes about using notecards to organize a speech using the analogy of an hourglass. Annotations on Microsoft Comments guide teachers through the notes and practice problems. There are 8 multiple-choice practice problems in this section with open response questions to reinforce student mastery.

Chapter 2 of the lesson focuses on identifying the thesis and main ideas in a speech. Students review notes and complete 6 multiple-choice questions.

Finally in Chapter 3, students review notes about selecting the best title and answer 7 multiple choice questions.

There are a total of 18 multiple choice questions, several open response questions, guided notes, annotation strategies, and notes for the teacher to successfully guide students through this lesson with high mastery.
