This series of ELEMENTARY LATIN vocabulary learning display and design posters with a whole-group practice and quiz introduces children to 20 scrumptious fruits and vegetables from the very beginning of their LATIN learning. Children familiarize themselves with both the 'look' of LATIN words, and how they are represented in the written form.
The resource provides children with multi-skill learning opportunities: reading, spelling, listening and speaking, as well as engaging with basic writing to develop their confidence in writing in LATIN, at the same time that they are learning about food and healthy eating in other areas of the curriculum.
CLASSIS UNUS features 10 fruits and 10 vegetables, including masculine, feminine and neuter nouns, and a selection of singular and plural, which is a great opportunity to begin to compare LATIN to ENGLISH. It doesn't matter if some of the words don't feature in your immediate or even longer-term learning plan: the learning display creates a lovely LATIN feel to your classroom and school walls, providing the whole school community daily opportunities to engage with LATIN, and promoting LATIN as an important and vibrant language, which features in the everyday life of your school.
LET'S GET CREATIVE!
Children enjoy honing their artistic and design skills by selecting their favorite fruit or vegetable - or both! - to color and decorate, with the additional challenge of writing the correct LATIN words/genders in their best handwriting. Children also love to see their work celebrated on classroom and corridor walls for everyone in the school community to enjoy too!
