SCIENCE REVOLUTION! A great new way to DO Science in Stations!
Chemistry101: the Periodic Table: ELEMENTS, COMPOUNDS, METALS SET
WARNING: This is not cutesy fluff, it is REAL SCIENCE CONTENT for 6th, 7th, or 8th grade students, or even 9-12 as a review, learning the basics of Physics, Chemistry, Biology, Geology, and how to “DO” REAL SCIENCE.
The BASIC SETUP works for any of my content SETs. THESE STATIONS DO NOT require millions of copies, but a ONE page MiniBook for students, ONE Sign, and ONE page of Directions per STATION. (there may be a page of CARDS, an example, or an answer key)
They are easy to setup- just follow my 1-2-3 GO! EASY SETUP instructions! Students record their work in my MiniBOOK, which has a section for each station. I have provided a STUDENT EXPECTATIONS SIGN & my Grading Rubric to make it even easier for you to get Rock n Rolling! Complete each station in 15-20 minutes (or longer- the kids never want to leave!) and then REVOLVE to the next station!
Stations are color coordinated with the RAINBOW or ROYGBIV– so– no worries about getting them in numerical order! AND they look engaging in your classroom
Science Revolution! has a TEACHER SMALL GROUP INCLUDED--no extra planning needed. This Periodic Table SET includes 2 differentiated activities, for that teacher SMALL GROUP to practice the always challenging—Elements, Compounds, Metals STANDARDS. These STATIONS are:
TEACH! Station: 2 Periodic Table ACTIVITIES: Elements vs. Compounds CARDS & MAT, or Metals/Nonmetals/Metalloids CARDS & Mat for listing their Properties—or do BOTH, first identify as ELEMENT, then whether Metal, Nonmetal, Metalloid—and what it’s properties should be. If COMPOUND, tell how many different ELEMENTS are present—using my NO FAIL METHOD: Name & Tally- Mat w/ teaching directions provided, and Mat without for Students. Also included are some Formulas & Equations to practice isolating the different Elements. Differentiate with Difficulty of CARDS & the 3 Options of Activities.
WORDS! Station: Vocabulary MatchUP CARDS GAME & small Choice Board for Illustrating meaning using creativity! (large & small color, illustrated Vocab Cards provided- in case you want a set for student’s notebooks!) Differentiate with number or choice of Vocab Terms to be illustrated.
GRAPH! Station: Graph DATA of Elements in the Human Body (Pie &/or Bar Graph) Differentiate: Have students figure out & set up axes, or give them labeled axes--BOTH PROVIDED
EXPLORE! Station: ELEMENT, COMPOUND, MIXTURE CARDS—Symbols or Picture Cards & MAT, also for discussion—Equations & Formula CARDS as Compounds or Mixtures?
INVESTIGATE! Station: Investigate Properties of METALS/ NONMETALS/ METALLOIDS, using everyday objects and models of those properties- ALWAYS using the Scientific Method
COMPUTE! Station: QR code links & “HOT” Hyperlinks-- to fun, interesting ELEMENTS, COMPOUNDS, METALS Interactive WEBsites!
EXTRA! Station: ELEMENTS & COMPOUNDS Connect4 GAME in COLOR & B/W
Use all seven (7), or 3, 6, or by themselves as separate activities! You may find that some of the extras- like Reading Response Prompts, and my super easy Grading Rubric, will help you all year long! My kids glue them into the cover of their Journals/Notebooks, for reference, and Viola! I have a no-papers life! Everything is kept in their Journals/Notebooks
Use the same Science Revolution Setup all year long--and just switch out the Revolution TOPIC SET! (I wrote these stations to use during my school’s SMALL GROUP Period, where I saw each of my 4 classes-- one day every week --to work on concepts not mastered on the last assessment. (Oh FUN FUN DATA) I know that the repetitive practice with Graphing, the Scientific Method, Vocabulary Practice, and hands-on practice with difficult concepts like Elements/Compounds Models in Pictures--, and other such skills in these stations is what helped them ROCK on their final Benchmark!)
It’s a Science Revolution!
