This bundle contains Little Language Learners’ top rated educational resources for ELL Newcomer students. These products are being used in thousands of early primary classrooms worldwide (many upper primary teachers use these resources for their ELL Newcomers as well.) The bundle has over 1,000 plus (and always growing!) activities. Your Newcomers will learn to speak and comprehend in English through both the Sheltered Instruction and Direct Instruction methods. You will see tremendous growth in the four domains of reading, writing, listening and speaking by using these detailed resources and beautifully designed supports. Your ELL Newcomers’ English Language Proficiency skills will be developed, as well as their grade level expectations. (CCSS and WIDA aligned)
ESL Newcomers arrive throughout the school year. Often they are academically and linguistically behind their ESL and General Ed. peers. It is frustrating for both the teacher and the ESL Newcomer student in the first few months. The student is trying to assimilate into a new culture and school environment without knowing the language. The teacher has the task of addressing the various language acquisition levels of her class and attend to the complex needs of her "ESL Newcomer" student. This bundle was designed to make the first months of this orientation period easier for both the student and the teacher. There are black and white versions included. Spanish versions are included for Dual Language classrooms!
This bundle reflects thirty-two years of ESL education experience. The author has taken the best practices of second language acquisition pedagogy and created materials that are efficient, practical and rigorous in design and implementation.
It is a bargain at this price! This bundle is worth well over $100 dollars!
Here are the units that are in the bundle.
ESL Newcomer Work and Assessment:
School items, people, colors, and numbers are some of the survival English vocabulary that is addressed in this unit. Portrait templates for school specialty teachers, nurse, classroom teacher and principal are available. Direct Instruction vocabulary cards with scripts that foster conversation skills are provided. This will help introduce a frightened ESL Newcomer to their new school environment and teachers. Many ESL Newcomers may not have had formal education (refugees) in their home country-leaving them far behind their school age peers. Seat work and activities are provided. A quick academic assessment is also available. It will give you a baseline of what the child knows and what level to start planning lessons that will attend to his/her needs.
This unit is designed for K-2 ESL students. (The materials are also appropriate for Newcomers 3-5 who have had no formal schooling. (i.e. an upper primary child that has no reading or writing skills in their native language.) Many upper primary ESL teachers have asked for beginner work for their newly arrived refugee learners.

ELL Newcomer Autobiography:
This is a wonderful resource to help an ELL Newcomer introduce themselves to their new classmates. Help your Newcomer students break the ice with their new American or Canadian peers with this autobiography. Clip art is provided to help decorate the autobiography.
ELL Newcomer Memory Book:
My First Year in America Memory Book helps your Newcomer students celebrate their first year living and learning in a new culture. This memory book is designed to address the levels of the early stages of language acquisition. It offers opportunities for the child to express themselves through drawing and writing with differentiated templates. The first year in a new country and learning a new language is a powerful lifetime experience. This project will become a cherished keepsake. It will also show the child how much they have learned and experienced in their new country. I have created this memory book because I could not find one that met the needs of ELL learners. This project attends to the WIDA standards for ELLS. It includes clip art for the children to decorate their project like a scrapbook. A newcomer has a year of first experiences in a new culture. Many children from other countries have never experienced seasons or traditional American holidays. This memory book allows the child to remember and celebrate their first American Thanksgiving, Halloween, Valentine’s Day and other first cultural events and new relationships.
Neighborhood and Community Helpers:
Neighborhood places are explored in this thematic unit. Your students will become familiar with the concepts and vocabulary of the neighborhood setting. Community helpers and the jobs that they do are also taught in this unit. The children will develop their skills in writing, phonemic awareness, math, sight words, and story sequencing through the neighborhood theme. Neighborhood and community poems, label books, writing templates, scaffolded writing templates, word matches, sight word trace/search activities, five senses writing prompt, addition practice, number recognition, phonemic sound fluency practice, cloze sentences are just some off the skills that are targeted in this beautifully designed unit. Fairy tales with complementing activities that help develop basic literacy skills are provided. This thematic unit is a best seller on TpT!

These are great topics you can use to develop their writing skills. Children learn to write best when they are composing stories about concepts they really understand.
