You know that it's easier to be in school teaching than leave substitute plans!!! So let me do the work for you! If you know that you are going to be absent, you can easily leave this out for the students. If it's an emergency absence, it's simple for the substitute to print, distribute, and explain. It will keep your students busy and engaged.
What I do is I print out these activities ahead of time and place them all in a folder. This folder is in my SUB TUB. Each assignment has its own folder. If I know I'll be out, I simply pull out the folder and label it as the activity for the day. If it's an emergency, I let the sub know to pull out the sub tub. (I have instructions for my subs that I have created ahead of time regarding my sub tub)
I named this SUB PLANS 2 because I have another product featuring different emergency sub plans!
- 3 writing assignments (You can use 1 for each time you're out. However, each lasts more than one forty minute period.)
-Direction page for each assignment
-Rubric for each assignment
-Substitute instructions for each assignment
The writing assignments also feature an art portion. Each assignment features a picture prompt. The pictures are very interesting and should get your students, of any age level, thinking! The assignment should keep them busy for a while! On the rubric, I have a WORK ETHIC category. The substitute will make note of any behavior issues. This will affect their grade in that category.
I left this as a Word Document in the event you'd like to edit or simply add notes for your substitute.
I hope this comes in as handy for you as it does for me!
