PRODUCT DESCRIPTION

This product was created to complement the Ontario Curriculum Grade 1 Science strand;

Understanding Matter and Energy: Energy In Our Lives*

• 3 Big Ideas Posters - in colour and black & white.

• The Flow of Energy - 7 different examples tracing the flow of energy from the sun to us. Answer key included.

• 4 different experiments exploring the effects of light and heat from the sun.

• Everyday Energy - Daily uses of energy - 2 different Interactive cut and glue activities that has students sort objects and activities into the appropriate column according to the type of energy used. Answer keys included.

• When it's HOT, When it's COLD - Students will consider seasonal differences in the types of energy we use and how we use it.

• I Use Energy - Suggest ways to reduce personal energy consumption - Interactive cut and glue sorting activity with things that either help or harm the Earth. Answer key included. You could also have students circle the best choices rather than cutting and pasting. Answer key is included.

• I Can Save Energy - Students will describe ways to save energy. Answer key included.

• We Use Energy - Students will describe ways energy is used at home, school and in the community. These 4 pages have large graphic organizers so students can write a little or a lot and/or add pictures too.

• I'm Full of Energy! List the types of activities they would do at the park. Answer key included.

• Electrical Energy - Students will write about how our everyday lives, and the lives of other living things, would be different if electrical energy was no longer available. 2 scenarios are considered; a Canadian zoo and at home.

• What Energy! - Culminating Activity - Students are asked to design and construct a device that uses energy to perform a task; a kite (wind energy) or a musical instrument (human energy).

- Student cover page is also included (black & white version of product cover)

→ Each page has the specific expectation at the top. These learning goals will help to focus your lessons within the unit.
