This is a basic listening assessment to be given to newcomer ELLs in K-8 or Beginner ELLs in K/1/2. The teacher directs students to circle or point to the correct picture. This can be given in a group setting or one-on-one. It covers basic vocabulary such as animals, weather, clothing, food, numbers, and colors.
It can be administered in English or, if you want a sense of the child's listening skills in their home language, then it can be given in their home language.
It can be used as a pre-test and post-test to show progress. Test the child in September, December, and then June to show progress and identify areas of weakness.
Note: This was designed for black and white printing so two questions require that you color in the boxes three different colors. Or you may easily modify in Word to include colors if you have access to a color printer!
Answer key and grading rubric is included on the last page of the document.
