In this Lockbox Challenge, students will need to break into a box to save St. Patrick's Day.

Jimminy McFinnerty is a leprechaun, but he is not the mischievous kind. In fact, Jimminy has dedicated his life to helping others in need. This year, he has collected a very large sum of money, and he plans to make an anonymous donation to the local children's hospital in honor of St. Patrick's Day. The only problem is that Benson Greedyman, the most selfish boy in town, has stolen the coins and locked them in a safety box. Unlock the box and help Jimminy spread some joy at the children's hospital this St. Patrick's Day!

There are 6 different challenges included in this resource. Each task will require logical reasoning and critical thinking skills. All the printable materials for each task are included, with an easy-to-read reference sheet that outlines the lock codes and setup for each challenge. The following challenges are included:

1. Leprechaun Logic- Students will use clues to determine the last names of four leprechauns, as well as their favorite type of leprechaun mischief. They will use this information to find and unscramble letters to make a code for the 5-letter lock.

2. Toadstool Patterns- Students will find the missing numbers in four number patterns and then plug those numbers into an equation involving addition and multiplication.

3. Lucky Clover Hunt- A lucky four leaf clover will send students on a scavenger hunt to gather clues to find the key for the key lock. A secret decoding tool will be used to translate the final secret message.

4. Lucky McDuffy- Students will solve six number puzzles and then use the answers to solve a long division problem. The final problem uses a 3 digit divisor. Students can use a calculator if needed.

5. Cupcake Sudoku- Students must use visual discrimination to carefully place six different cupcakes on a Sudoku grid. Every row, column, and cluster must have one of each type of cupcake. Once in place, students will use a UV flashlight to read a secret message on the back that reveals the combination for the directional lock.

6. Sneaky O'Sullivan- Students will unscramble a secret leprechaun message that explains how to open the 4-letter lock.

Answer keys are included for each challenge.

The initial setup of a Lockbox Challenge is a bit of a time investment, but I have worked hard to make it as easy as possible for you with detailed directions that include pictures. Once the challenges are set up and the locks are in place, you will be amazed by the level of engagement, degree of teamwork, and problem solving that unfolds. This makes it all worth while. :-)

Reward certificates (in black line or color) are included to place inside the box.
