This is a comprehensive lesson plan I used with an advanced group of seventh graders as well as a group of tenth graders that absolutely loved it!
Students are given the definitions for each part of speech and then asked to come up with their own examples of the part of speech. After they write it all down, they crumple up their paper (making a 'snowball') and throw it at the board.
They pick up a random snowball and repeat until they have all eight parts of speech.
Once they have all of the parts of speech, they must use the example words from a random snowball to create a sentence. They will switch with a partner and the partner will be asked to identify which part of speech each word is.
The pre and post assessments are available for FREE in my store! Happy teaching!
