The goal of this case is to collect the valuable items that the suspect stole from Mathy before the thief comes home. You will be looking around the thief’s house for clues on where the items are hidden. The thief is really into math problems. You will use your problem solving skills to work through this case. Follow the directions on each page to solve the clues and move to the next part in the case. While working your way through this activity, write down or type all your work into your activity packet. Good luck, Detective!
Excellent review activity for Pre-Algebra students and general math courses in grades 7 and up. Topics include interpreting a bar graph and word problem solving.
Complete in class or assign packet and ppt as homework. As the ppt is run, the prompts will lead to slides with questions to be solved. If a student (or the class) chooses an incorrect answer choice, the ppt will jump to an "Incorrect" help slide. Returns the student to the question for another try. They must get the correct answer before being allowed to proceed. Run the presentation as a Slide Show from the beginning so there's no skipping ahead or previews of answers.
