Have some classroom fun this holiday season with your beginner ESL, EFL, ENL students!
Admire Christmas in Paris, then read (a VERY brief) passage about some Santa traditions around the world. Next, some geography practice: find the countries on the map, and draw the snacks given to Santa. After a bit of writing and a word search -- plus a handful of comprehension questions -- students write a story about the children in the Santa picture. Or use the comic grid to show what happens next.
Finally, have some fun with color pencils, glue and scissors with a cut-out and create card of the student's own design. Add some paperclips, and you have decorations to color and hang up! (Don't forget to encourage them to write something nice in the card!)
This packet comes with some suggestions for teachers, and additional graphic organizers for extension activities, including a T-chart to compare holiday traditions across countries, and a portrait frame to draw Santa Claus.
Expect to have a good few hours of fun with this!
Please note: This resource does refer to the holiday tradition of leaving beer or sherry for Santa; and focuses on the cultural, rather than religious, aspects of the holiday. It is nonfiction, but don't worry -- it contains no Santa spoilers :)
