Academic Vocabulary for ELL/ESL Students using “Zebra” by Chaim Potok
This Omega English product was specifically created for ELL/ESL students. It corresponds to the Academic Vocabulary in the short story “Zebra” that can be found in the 8th Grade Code X Curriculum page 134. It contains a very detailed Common Core aligned lesson on the Academic Vocabulary in “Zebra”. The lesson plan highlights the Danielson Domains to ensure effectiveness. It also has a vivid Power Point with visuals that corresponds to the lesson. The lesson contains 3 specific activities for ELL students (beginner, Intermediate, and Advanced). A graphic organizer is included and free access to an interactive site that contains virtual flashcard created by Omega English. Link and password is included in the document. On the site students will listen to the word, practice spelling the word, match the word with the definition, and play several games using the word. You can also give the students the password to access these flashcards at home. This ensures that the needs of all auditory, visual, and tactile learners are being meet.
