There are 7 thematic vocabulary and speaking lessons: family, habits and routines, activities, clothes, food, sports and vacations. Each lesson includes realistic, colorful pictures and a word bank below for students to match to the pictures.
Questions on the following slide elicit conversation using various tenses learned in the elementary level- simple present, can, going to and simple past. These can be changed by the teacher to better fit the students learning needs by simply deleting questions in a tense/aspect that students wouldn't know. Sentence stems also created for some questions.
There are also flashcards for each lesson that help get students to speak. Flashcards have a sentence stem that the student completes. For example, "I wake up at ___." Students can work in pairs with the flash cards either picking them up from the deck and speaking or by distributing them out and playing, "I have ____. Who has ___?"
There is also a die template with vocabulary and/or pictures with each topic. Students roll the die and make sentences. The die can easily be changed to focus on different words or vocabulary words.
There are also conversation questions about the following topics, but no vocabulary is provided: money, friends, hometown, TV and movies
There is also a bonus card game for pairs or small groups to play that gets students speaking in the various elementary tenses. I like to use this a review. Students draw a card from a deck of cards and then ask or answer the corresponding question. So if a student picked up a 3 of clubs, they would look at clubs and then number 3.
This is my entire collection of elementary level vocabulary and speaking activities. I use these for conversation classes or as supplements to lessons where the grammar has already been taught.
