Product Description
ESL students, from middle school to adult. Virtually all non-native speakers have trouble with certain sounds of English, primarily because they do not have those sounds in their native language. In broad strokes, the major problem areas are: light-right-white-night; ban-pad-fan-van; beat-bat, bet, bit.
This is a Battleship-type, communicative pair activity. The coordinates for a Battleship game are A, B, C, and 1, 2, 3. These are too easy to distinguish and pronounce. These COORDINATE WORDS (usually about 20) feature the most difficult sounds for ESL students to distinguish and pronounce, such as: light-right-night-white; beat-bat-bet-bit; gin-chin-zen-shin; pool-pull.
The ANSWER WORDS (usually about 22) are vocabulary from the ESL topic, for example, FAMILY: aunt, uncle, cousin, relative, niece, nephew, strict and lenient.
The similar sounding coordinate words create confusion. Clearing up that confusion improves both listening and pronouncing. It’s also fun, challenging, related to an ESL topic, and contains topic vocabulary.
