Are your babies excited about learning English? They will be while creating their own individual PowerPoint slide showing an image of the jungle animal they chose, three or four facts describing the animal, and hearing their animal's wild jungle sounds like zebras rushing through a stream, giraffe's munching on leaves, lions and tigers roaring, elephants trumpeting, and noisy chimps chattering away as they socialize. This collaborative model of a jungle animals' PowerPoint is a project that young ELLs can do with assistance. They can choose their animal to research on the internet, learn to download images on their individual slide, copy and paste three to four facts to be paraphrased, and insert an mp3 file of their animal's sound that you have already prepared for them on a CD or flash drive. After each student's slide is completed, you put them together as a completed slide show, have each student present his or her slide, and send a CD copy home for their parents to enjoy. Your K-2 ELLs will be standing 10 feet tall when they present their animal and then take the whole show home to hear their parents' applause.
