I have used sentence activities like these with English learners for many years, and my adult EL students have enjoyed the puzzle-like challenge of solving these scrambles, learning valuable vocabulary and grammar skills along the way. In my experience, these pages have improved student reading as well as their writing and in many cases been culturally informative.
These scrambled sentence activities are leveled for easy differentiation. Each topic is available in levels A (low), B, and C (high). EL classes often have a mixture of students at a variety of levels. These pages allow you to meet the needs of EL students at a variety of levels. For adult EL learners, Level A sentences are generally appropriate for mid-beginner to intermediate levels. Level B is good for intermediate to low advanced, and level C is suited for advanced learners.
In this set you will find levels A, B, and C sentences for 5 topics: Bread, Pizza, Vegetables, Sandwiches, and Breakfast.
Each page is available with full-color photographs or grayscale photographs.
In addition to the sentence activities, I’ve also included a guide on giving immediate correction feedback which is a nice, quick scaffold for students working independently in a classroom setting. However, you can score or assess these any way you see fit. An answer key is also provided, but know that acceptable answers may vary.
