“What Will Happen Next?” is a great tool for language teachers to adopt in their classes to give students a chance to practice their speaking ability.
Often times, it is extremely difficult to elicit speech that is meaningful in length and content. Even when asked fun and creative questions, timid language learners often answer in short sentences.
However, when students are given the cartoon sheet from “What Will Happen Next?”, they can build their stories upon the contents provided in the pictures. Students can learn new vocabulary from the diverse themes and situations in the cartoons. Moreover, the blank box at the end of the cartoon can foster creative thinking.
What will Happen Next will help your students keep talking!
General: students describe a cartoon series one at a time and compare with other students.
1. One student describes the picture in the first box and the next student describes the second, and so on, until the sixth student who gets the empty box creates his or her own story.
2. Cut the boxes in six, and have students put the pictures in the right sequence, and follow the above activities.
