This product is meant to be used in an ESL Interactive Notebook, whether by an ESL Specialist or a General Education Classroom teacher.
Oftentimes students are dropped into our classes without knowing any English and we are supposed to teach them along with our other diverse students. This product gives you a quick starting point, providing ESL students with 25 survival phrases to help them survive their first time in U.S. schools.
Each phrase includes the Spanish translation. For other languages have students use the English phrase as a starting point to figuring out what it would be in their native language. Students can use dictionaries or translation products to help in this process.
The phrases in this product can be cut out and glued into student notebooks with the English on top and the student’s native language on bottom (Spanish has been provided). They have been purposefully right hand centered so that glue or staples can be placed on the left side. You can also use this as an example in your teacher notebook and have students hand write the phrases.
There are also small cards provided with one word on each card. You can have students cut these apart and put them in the correct order using their journal to help. Additionally, you can mix up the cards by sentence (or mix them up all together) and say the phrase in their native language (Spanish provided on the earlier journal phrases) and have them try to put the English cards in order without their journal.
