Learn to search online for a dream home with this authentic task based approach. 40 interactive slides on learning the language of housing descriptions. Learners search for their dream home while building their vocabulary for describing homes, particularly focusing on adjectives and prepositions to do with floor plans. It provides a step-by-step guide to an online property search as well as reading and quiz activities.
1.Before you read activity –categorised as search words and property words.
2.Guide to online property search activity - follow step-by-step instructions.
3.Reading activity - 14 matching, multiple-choice,sequencing and cloze questions.
The different activities in this resource develop a range of reading skills- scanning for information on a website and reading a text for meaning. It also builds their online search skills. The property websites are from Australia but can serve as a model for other property websites.
There are two examples of houses. One is a house from a property website and the related activities guide the learner on how to read for particular information. The other house is a reading text with a simpler floor plan followed by reading comprehension questions.
It works well as a projection led by the teacher - especially for the first house - and at the same time have learners use a property website to do a search. Or if learners have two screens available, one screen can have the resource activity and the other screen a property website. ESL-EFL learners will benefit from using the resource as a teacher-led activity in order to become familiar with property search vocabulary and the online navigation of such sites.

ABOUT THE QUIZ
Check out the free Adobe Captivate resources first.
This quiz was created using Adobe Captivate. There are three file choices: as an .htm file, an Adobe Acrobat Document or as a Shockwave File Object. As Flash is on the way out, I recommend using the PDF version or the SWF version with a SWF player. You need the latest and up to date Adobe Acrobat Reader and Flash Player to view the interactive quiz. General features of the quiz are:
• Choices are automatically marked
• Overall results are displayed at the end
• Responses can be reviewed at the end.
• 1 point allocated for each correct answer
• 80% or more of total points is a total pass
• answers reviewed at end.
The quiz can be displayed as a projection for a whole class activity or it could be uploaded online for individual student use. It is also possible to print the text and questions.
This resource builds on the Housing Vocabulary 1 Quiz.

TIPS ON OPENING THIS FILE
Double check the TPT instructions on how to unzip in case there's a small detail that has been missed. This site also has useful tips on opening a zipped .swf file at http://www.wikihow.com/Open-SWF-Files
Some browsers do not support Flash so use the PDF or SWF player. Test it with the free flash resources from my store first.
In IE, download this free SWIFF player at http://www.globfx.com/downloads/swfplayer/. It works very nicely with the IE swf file as a stand-alone option.
