This learning kit is designed to build knowledge and skills in recognising risks and knowing what to do about them, becoming familiar with pools, beaches and water based activities and learning the vocabulary and sentence structures which are required to ask for help or advice, request information or find out about a risk. It is ideal for ESL / EFL learners as it helps them build vocabulary, use modifying words and phrases and understand how and why water skills are important.
ESL learners can apply their beginning English language skills and gain new vocabulary about beaches, water safety, learning to swim and being sunsmart. This unit of work can be accompanied by a visit to a local pool or beach or a talk from a lifeguard or swimming teacher in class.
