I created this game for my adult ESL classes. My goal was to help my shyer students practice speaking and conversation. It helps with confidence and language production. This game is easy to explain and a good way to decompress after an exam day or to practice conversation and sentence production. As a teacher, I like to keep a set of these cards in my bag at all times to bring out whenever needed. The set must be printed and each card cut out individually. To make the cards last, I laminated them.
The game can be played in one of two ways:
Students must describe the top word WITHOUT using any of the words listed beneath, OR
Students must describe the top word and MUST use ALL of the words listed beneath.
Either way, it’s quite fun and engaging, and gets students thinking about descriptive language!
Could also possibly be used as a formative assessment for speaking skills.
