As students study the many countries whose imperialism extended to colonizing African nations, these activities assist in driving home the concept of the large areas of land some European countries occupied in Africa. In addition, students realize the specific areas in Africa colonized by particular European countries.
This file contains -
- a country shape puzzle, that causes students to look at borders and compare them with the shapes given, then write the name of that country and its occupying country
- a word search, that has students locating country names in the word grid where each name is followed by its year of independence
- a worksheet that has students comparing Africa 1914 with a modern map of Africa
- and a matching exercise reinforcing student knowledge of the general areas colonized by each European country.
Three maps are included also: one for Africa 1914, and two for modern Africa
