JONAS ON TRIAL FOR TREASON!
Jonas returns to the community and is immediately put on
trial for treason. The students are witnesses, jurors, attorneys, and one lucky student is...Jonas!
This is a great unit for bringing literature into the real world. Students are challenged to think critically and creatively, while deepening the recall, literary analysis, and comprehension skills spelled out in the Reading Literature requirement in the Common Core standards. The added bonus is that they will participate in an actual American institution: the jury system. This material works with any existing Giver curriculum; it is typically a way to wrap up your classroom studies with engaging role play.
Includes a suggested timeline and activities, complete with templates.
And the good news is that there are no materials other than paper required (though you might want to find a judge’s gavel).
