Ever played a piece in band, and heard half your brass on the wrong partial? And all we can say is, don't you HEAR that?
This warm up focuses your band on singing and then playing the intervals of SO, MI, and LA in concert Bb. Teach your band students listening and ear training in three simple steps:
1. Sing the four beat pattern for your students using solfege. (Or have an outstanding student sing the solfege for you!)
2. Band students sing the four beat pattern back to you.
3. Band plays four beat pattern.
Challenge students to listen for correct notes! Everyone is playing the same notes of the scale, aiding in ear training. Ear training is the fastest way to fix error detection in your large ensemble class. Get them listening early! These four beat patterns can be weekly focuses for middle school band, or fast review blitzes for high school ensembles.
List of included instrumentation: flute, oboe, Bb clarinet, Bb bass clarinet, alto sax, tenor sax, bari sax, trumpet, horn in F, trombone, euphonium, tuba, timpani, glockenspiel, xylophone, and marimba.
