This is a full 2-3 week unit that includes introductory materials to help guide you through the teaching process, standards, readings, worksheets, and videos. CCR Standards are included as is a teaching guide to help you navigate through this unit.
This is the second unit in my full semester of American English, Semester I. The first unit is the Native American Literature bundle, which I offer for free. It also includes vocabulary lessons 1 and 2.
This bundle is the second unit which is Exploration Narratives, including readings from Christopher Columbus, Cabeza deVaca, William Bradford, and the Mayflower Compact primary source analysis. The readings are short enough to maintain interest, but long enough for high schoolers to feel challenged. Each reading has annotations that follow along with the video lessons. After each reading, there is a worksheet that students can complete. I like to assign the videos for homework and have the students complete the worksheets in small groups during class time.
Skills covered in this unit are Author's Purpose, Central Ideas, Primary Source Analysis, and other elements of a SOAPSTone analysis (subject, occasion, audience, purpose, speaker, and tone.) This bundle also includes the Vocabulary Lesson 3, which is still a review of figurative language terms. When purchased as a bundle, you save money; although all of the videos and lessons are available in my store for individual purchase. I have the Cabeza de Vaca videos available for free if you would like to preview some videos prior to purchasing the bundle.
I am happy to provide any additional materials, word docs, ppt presentations. Just email me for anything the could help you to supplement in your classroom.
