EARLY AMERICAN WRITING ACTIVITY
by Carol B Roberts
The activity is designed as a response to literature of the Early American (Puritan) Period. Students have a choice of written responses (including letters, a story, a sermon or persuasive speech, and a conceit) which can be presented/read to the class or published to a class website or student portfolio. The activity can be used as a collaborative project or an individual assignment.
The teacher can determine how much time to allow for the activity. If a partner project, class time should be allowed for collaboration. If an individual project, class time may not be needed, except for introducing the assignment.
The activity includes a peer review rubric if teacher wants to create a more complex project.
