PRODUCT DESCRIPTION

Colonial Times is a Visual Art unit of work for stage 2 (Year 3/4) students, although could be used in Stage 3.

Students investigate ways in which artists during colonial times represented the world around them. Artworks from the realism art period (1848-1900), a time when art celebrated the working class and peasants and had a rustic style to it, will be used to encapsulate the Australian colonial environment. From their own environment, students will focus on and document ideas in research drawings, and then develop concepts into paintings and pastel artworks.
Students use artworks created in early years of Australian colonisation.

This unit would support classes studying:

The British colonisation of Australia
Early Australian explorers
First Fleet
Convicts

The unit includes ready to print focus artworks by Eugene Von Guerard, Tom Roberts, Algernon Talmage and Arthur Streeton.
