This activity asks students to research the positive and negatives of early North American colonization by the English and the difficulties that the English faced. It asks them to discover what factors enabled the settlements of Jamestown, the Massachusetts Bay Colony, and the Plymouth Colony, while also studying the setbacks each one faced. In the chart, students are also asked to rationalize whether or not the settlement overall was a success or failure for the English during the period of North American colonization. At the very end, the students are asked to respond to two prompts, fusing the information that they've researched to make a conclusion about early British settlements in North America.
There's no set amount of resources for students to have in the activity because I believe that should be left up to the teacher to determine. I've set it up so that the content can be changed to fit different classrooms and content units, and to engage students in Level 2 type learning activities (considering Webb's DOK).
