Students color, cut, and glue pieces onto a file folder to create this lapbook that can be used for a variety of reasons - review, assessment, or as a study guide.

Students research the background, sponsoring country, reason for exploration, dates of exploration, and claim to fame for each of the included eight explorers. Then students draw the explorers' routes on a map. I have included a template so you can adapt the explorers to your curriculum. I have also included multiple options for each activity so that you can differentiate for your students, including a full-color version if you want to quickly make an example.

Explorers Included:

Christopher Columbus

John Cabot

Juan Ponce de Leon

Hernan Cortes

Jacques Cartier

Francisco Coronado

Henry Hudson

Robert de la Salle

Included in the ZIP file:

Two pages of assembly instructions with pictures

Fifty-nine pages of masters for the students and teacher with multiple options for each page (each student will need eleven pages depending on the option you choose)

Editable PowerPoint file - blank/editable flaps for the reasons for exploration, blank/editable explorer booklets, editable key for route map

I used Social Studies Alive! America's Past Chapter 5 - Routes of Exploration to the New World (for fifth grade) as a guide for the explorers, concepts, and terms I included.
