So you've finished your work, and that's really great,
But now, here comes the great debate.
What do I do now that I'm done?
Just look at the chart, and pick something fun!
This early finishers chart will help eliminate wasted time in the classroom. Just print and give each student a copy to keep in their folders. There are 20 activities, mostly centered on reading and language arts, that will keep those early finishers occupied while giving you time to continue working with the rest of the students. Giving students their choice of what to do gives them a sense of responsibility for their own learning, and lets them pick an activity they feel interested in for that day. Here are some of the activities listed on the chart:
Write your spelling words 3 times, each in a different color
Create a helpful invention and write at least 5 sentences describing it
Write a thank you letter to a school staff member (cafeteria worker, janitor, principal, etc.)
Play spelling tic-tac-toe with a friend**
Make as many $1.00 words as you can**
Revise and edit a story you've been working on
Make a list of questions you could ask a classmate to get to know them better
Create a list of topics/questions you'd like to research throughout the year
**A description of how students complete these tasks is included, as well as a reference chart for $1.00 words :)
