Use this BOOM CARDS deck to target early language and listening with young children in speech or auditory verbal therapy. It contains 20 versatile activities to elicit language or encourage auditory development. A SECOND VERSION of this deck (with 20 different activities) can be found here!
The first card is a clickable menu card, so that you can select the desired activity. Each of the 20 cards contains a separate activity which involves some sort of movement of one or more object on the card. There are suggested words or "sounds" for each of these activities. For example, a thumbtack moves to the balloons to elicit the word/sound "pop" from the child. Many of the cards could be used to model and elicit "nonspeech" sounds for preverbal children, such as blowing air for blowing bubbles, slurping, and chewing sounds.
Additionally, this deck could be used to target auditory development for young children with cochlear implants and/or hearing aids in auditory verbal therapy. The sounds associated with the activities correspond with Learning To Listen sounds, such as "ahhhh" (airplane), "hop hop hop" (bunny), and "mmm" (eating ice cream). The variety of suprasegmental features of the sounds make it a great tool for auditory bombardment for new listeners, or eliciting imitation of the Learning To Listen Sounds.
