A Plant is a leveled book for beginning readers who are learning how pictures and words work together. This nonfiction book for early emergent readers focuses on the growth of a plant and uses picture-supported text. Students have to pay attention to the words on each page, since sometimes the sight word A is used (with singular nouns), and sometimes it is not (with plural nouns).
A Plant is also appropriate for use with ESL students in the primary grades. The book can be taken home for familiar rereading after discussing it and working on it at school. Teacher notes, including early reading strategies, are included with the reproducible book.
(For additional versions of this book, suitable for differentiation of beginning readers who are working above GRL A, please see the Early Reader Set of Nonfiction Books on Plants.)
