Finding appropriate nonfiction books for beginning readers can be difficult when available books do not match the students' guided reading levels. Having multiple versions of similar books could address this need! To that end, this collection of informational books include three similar books on plants for emergent readers. Even emergent readers can participate in close reading if the books are accessible to them!
The topic for the three books focuses on plants. Each book uses the same photographs, concepts, and key vocabulary, but the text varies from book to book. The common elements allow for simultaneous class discussion of all three books. The three books include A Plant (approx. GRL A), A Flower (approx. GRL C), and Grow a Flower! (approx. GRL E). Teacher notes provide the common sight words used in each book, so students can monitor known words.
This set includes a bonus copy of the book with which teachers can create additional versions. The bonus copy contains the same photographs as the other three books, but the text is omitted. Teachers can add their own text to complement the photographs. The extra book can also be used with students, so they can demonstrate their understanding of the concepts by creating their own books.
