This offering is a collection of three puzzles designed for help in understanding Earth Day, ecology, and the environment. Two are word searches and the other uses some elementary powers of numbers with some elementary binary operations to uncover some facts about cell phones . . . and their disposal . . . along with a coded message that is apt. Though drivers of cars might appreciate the Saving Gas word search, even younger children can certainly do it and learn something from it to share with their parents. The puzzles are: Some Unpleasant Powers of Cell Phones, an Earth Day Look; Finding Recycling Ways, an Elementary Earth Day Word Search; and Saving Gas, an Earth Day Word Search.
ALSO there is a collection of six puzzles involving NCAA basketball. Five of them are Word Searches (a word search for each of the four region's 2015 teams involved and one for the Champions over the last thirty years) as well as a math puzzle that employs powers of two and three to give a sort of history of the tournament. By the time a student has finished the "math essay" he/she will know their powers of 2 & 3 plus they will have practiced some basic binary operations . . . and decoded the message that accompanies the puzzle. Since you've got students who root for various teams throughout the country this packet should make EVERYBODY happy.
