This ABC Order Center/Station is meant to be a low-prep way of having your student’s practice a skill in a fun, seasonal themed way. Several different recording sheets are included so that your students could work in this center more than once and have something different to do each time.
Print the seven sets of word cards (provided in both color and black and white versions). I recommend laminating them to ensure durability. Each set of words needs to be placed in its own plastic bag, envelope, or container.
Students (or teacher) will select a set of word cards and a recording sheet to use with the words. These recording sheets and word cards can be used to help differentiate the center in your classroom. For example, for students who are performing above grade level and work quickly may benefit more from alphabetizing the words as well as writing sentences for each word. Students performing below grade level may benefit from alphabetizing the words, writing a single sentence and illustrating their sentence.
Five of the sets all contain words that have a different beginning letter. Two sets of cards contain two or more words that may begin with the same letter.
You may want to use these activities as part of your small group. Hand each student a set of word cards and one of the small recording sheets (four on a page) to quickly review/practice ABC order skills right there with you in your small group area.
