Celebrate Earth Day with active reading!
This Common Core aligned active reading focuses on main idea, vocabulary, and text-based evidence. Students will read the Earth Day informational text three times, each time focusing on a different reading skill.
Everything is ready to print and includes:
Vocabulary – 10 Divided Circle Maps:
A divided circle map is included for each tier two vocabulary word. Each circle map contains space for the definition, synonyms, a sentence, and a picture. Ideally, students complete the vocabulary work before reading the Earth Day text.
Active Reading Directions:
Complete directions for three readings of the Earth Day informational text are included. Each reading of the text focuses on a different literacy skill.
Earth Day - Informational Text:
The informational text covers the relevance and history of Earth Day. Students will underline key details, circle definitions, and highlight text-based evidence.
Active Reading Assessment:
The three-part assessment covers vocabulary, comprehension, and includes a short answer extension question.
An answer key is provided for the vocabulary and assessment pages.
