Description

The earth is our home. On Earth Day and every day environmental science lessons can be taught year-long to teach children the importance of why we should care for the earth and how one person can make a difference. Teach information about usage and consumption of water, garbage, papers and more.

What is included in this science and literacy resource set:

  • The importance of trees for our own health and also for the paper that is produced. Students come up with types of paper that they know of and then there is a lesson on paper making.

  • The time it takes for jars and plastics to decompose is 1 million years! Students will learn about how to re-use and recycle jars and plastics. They will create a list of what you might find in a jar and come up with ideas on how to re-use a jar. A "rainforest in a jar" activity is included which balances nicely with the previous lesson on trees.

  • Students will learn about plastics and the amount of plastic bags that are used. Conservation concepts include using cloth grocery bags and recycling milk jugs and other plastics and/or using refillable water bottles.

  • Explore the importance of water. The bathroom is the room in the house where 65% of water is used. Students will work on tips to reduce water consumption in the bathroom by completing a cloze activity with a word bank included.

Adding earth and environment books will add to instruction on text features and reading for information.

Extras include:

Color "The Earth is Yours and Mine" poster

Earth-themed writing paper and a " The Earth Is Yours and Mine" coloring sheet.
