Are you looking for Earth Day
(i.e. recycling and caring for our natural resources
) activities for 5th, 6th, 7th and 8th grades? Here are two activities that will require students to think
and perhaps do a little research
The first activity
requires students to complete a Venn diagram, comparing two things centered around the issues of caring for our natural resources. Students are giving a list of 8 categories from which to choose. Examples: Safe materials/hazardous materials, natural/man-made, city concerns/country concerns. With this first activity, you can assign it more than once by asking students to choose a different category each time. Also, you can divide the class into 8 groups, assign each group a different topic from those given and then have each group report on their completed work.
The second activity
requires students to choose 5 of 7 main categories of materials that can be recycled. After they choose, they are to list as many examples of each type as they can. This may take a bit of research. If you want to change it up a bit, you can also ask students to choose the categories and then write about how each are recycled and/or what new products are produced using them.
