Description
Earth Day Activities Pack - NO PREP Common Core Reading Activities for Grades 4-8.
Spice up your lessons this Spring with the Earth Day Pack! Just like all of my other activity packs, these lessons are FUN, extremely high-interest, organized, RIGOROUS, and ready to teach today! You'll find that the skills covered in this Earth Day packet are relevant to what you're teaching and reviewing this time of year.
Your students will:
View the Disney movie Wall-E (you’ll need a copy of the movie), analyzing the movie for symbolism, character traits, motivation, and more. A cause-effect analysis will incite great discussions about taking care of our Earth. If you haven’t yet seen this one, you’re in for a treat! It’s content is clean as a whistle so no worries there (well, except for GARBAGE!) As always, complete answer keys and discussion guides are included so your analysis is not necessary - use mine!
Listen to a song about taking care of our Earth and analyze the lyrics as poetry.
Read Ray Bradbury’s “All Summer in a Day” and make real-life connections with the text through the use of a nonfiction article (included). Students will have to complete a short writing activity that involves using two sources – one fiction (story) and one nonfiction (article) to back up a claim with evidence.
Then, they’ll view the 25-minute movie based on the story (links included to full movie) and complete a 2-page analysis chart. Students won’t just compare the movie to the book, but will analyze and critique aspects of the two. For example, how is the setting developed differently in the book versus the short movie? Which develops the setting more clearly, and why? I’ve included all of the answers for you so that you don’t have to think them up yourself.

Thanks so much!
