This Earth Day activity pack has been designed for a Grades 2, 3 & 4 to cover activities for the whole day. They cover English and math skills and get the children to work in a range of different ways depending on the activity. Topics covered include recycling, reducing and reusing items. Ways in which they can help the environment in their everyday lives.
*Instructions for how the activities can be organised.
*Find a friend. Children go around the class finding children who fulfil the criteria e.g. have showers instead of baths.
*Diamond 9. (discussion work) As a small group, children discuss the different statements to then work out which are the most important things to do to help save our planet.
*Earth Day vocabulary jigsaws. Matching words with definitions and then completing the jigsaw with a drawing to explain the word. Words such as: recycle, pollution, environment.
*Earth Day Code breakers task cards. (math) Answering the different questions will give them a letter and when unscrambled makes an Earth Day word. Answers are included.
*Recycling Flap Books. (reading, writing, research) Children can cut out the pictures and stick it on the flap of the correct recycling bin. Children can then write about recycling for each of the materials plastics, glass and paper. They can use the information on the sheet to help them.
*Earth Day Pledges. Give each child a ‘I will stop’, ‘I will start’ and ‘I will do’ sheet for them to think about their own actions to help save the planet.
*Self evaluation. Give each child a self evaluation sheet where they need to write 3 things they have learnt, 2 things their family will do related to the things they have learnt today and finally 1 thing they will do following the learning from today.
I have provided these resources in color and black line to save on colored ink.
