This Earth-Day packet is perfect for the month of April but can really be used at any time of the year when you want to focus on our planet and what we could do to take good care of it. This is a 24 page packet and features 2 writing assignments and one readers' theater. The writing assignments are perfect for an Earth-themed bulletin board. I've had much success with this and hope that you do as well. The readers' theater is one that we performed one year as an assembly, but for now we've been doing it as an in-class read-aloud. It's based upon the great book by Don Madden, The Wartville Wizard. It's basically the same story with some add-ins and wrote up to make it more read-aloud friendly.
This packet includes:
-Earth Day Haiku Mobile Activity
a. Earth pattern
b. Haiku template pattern
c. Haiku student printable (Earth themed)
d. 2 grading rubrics (1 is simple and the other is more complex)
e. Overhead transparency brainstorming page
f. Haiku overhead transparencies
-Earth Day "Short Writing Assignment" to be featured with student holding the "earth" atop their heads. This assignment comes with directions, the writing pages, and 2 options. It makes an adorable bulletin board.
-Readers' Theater Script- This is the perfect script for Earth Day. The writing activities should be done after the read aloud as they are connected. The students really enjoy this story.
-Teacher Notes Page- includes explanation and flow of the lesson as well as pix for you to see how to put the work together
Happy Earth Day!
