I love close reading and so do my students. I truly enjoy making these packets and seeing my students digging in deeper to passages with them.
I've been using close reading strategies and packets in my classroom and have decide to blend close reading activities with Bloom's Taxonomy that provides deeper levels of thinking!
I love the end result. Earth Day is near, so why not learn about why we celebrate this important day! This Close Reading passage will bring insight to your students. Close reading passages should be at a higher level than the average text since students will be analyzing it for a week. Because of this, I use this with my 3rd & 4th grade high ability students. I believe it could be used in the regular 5th & 6th grade classroom as well depending on your student's level.
I use the class reading packets as a whole group but others find them helpful in guided reading groups or listening centers.
