Celebrate Earth Day with facts about our beautiful planet and related math word problems. On each pennant is a fact about Earth and a word problem to go along with it, like "How long would it take a Monarch butterfly to fly 2,500 miles given that he flies 50 miles per day?"
Each pennant has a picture to color that relates to the fact and word problem. All word problems can be solved with addition, subtraction, multiplication or division. Once a pennant is complete, it can be colored and then hung along a string in your classroom to celebrate Earth Day.
Included in this activity are 20 pennants, an answer sheet (if you would like students to also record their answers for credit) and an answer key. Each group of students can be given a set of pennants, scissors and either glue, tape or a stapler. Students can be in charge of cutting out the pennants. Groups can compete to see which group can complete the most pennants or your entire class can add pennants to one string as they complete each one. You may also choose to have your students color their pennants to add to your classroom decor.
*pennants include customary or metric measurements
