Celebrate Earth Day! In this online Ecological Footprint activity, students use the Global Footprint Network's
website to create personalized Footprints and explore ecological data from across the world. First, students complete a questionnaire regarding their energy consumption to determine their Footprints. Then, they use what they learned to create a visual graphic organizer and illustrate their personal data. Finally, students interpret global data to answer questions about various countries' biocapacity and Ecological Footprint sizes.
This is a great way to help students understand how their lifestyle affects the Earth! It gives them the opportunity to think about the small changes they can make to reduce their Footprint.
The worksheet is editable
so that it can be modified to fit your classroom. The personalized Footprint on the worksheet's front page is a great visual to display in your classroom or hallway!
