Students are told that they are seeing a problem in their community of throwing out electronics, instead of recycling. Based on this information, students are asked to write a letter to their local newspaper describing the problem and persuading other to begin recycling instead.
An article about E-waste, as well as two more pages from an infographic describing the problem of E-Wast are both included.
Students are also given a note page, a graphic organizer to get them through the planning stage of planning, as well as stationary to write their letter.
This activity allows students to read articles, while practicing using text details to support their claim, a common core standard of writing.
Please note, I have this project listed as taking a week. This would be the approximate length if you used this as a complete project using the stages of writing.
